I want to acknowledge for all the women and men and all the people listening, there is a women’s health crisis that is reflective of our culture right now. This is essential work, coming back to our bodies, and understanding our bodies and having sovereignty, so being able to advocate for our own health, because the medical industry as a whole is not serving, so we really need to understand what’s happening in our bodies to take our health into our own hands. – Lara Catone
In this interview Lara shares her personal journey towards wholeness – which has weaved together the threads of spirituality, sexuality, and social activism for women’s rights. Below are some of Lara’s suggestions on how to take part in the movement for women’s health:
VOTE WITH YOUR MONEY
Become very intentional about where you put your money. Know what companies and also political parties and organizations you are directly or indirectly supporting and what they stand for. The government and business are very intertwined and companies have a vested interest in politics.
WRITE & CALL YOUR GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS
This is essential!! This works and it matters. Remember, the government actually works for us. If we don’t support them, they don’t have a job. Collate numbers, emails and addresses of local, state and national officials and share with your friends. That way when there is something important to act on we can mobilize!
GET COMFORTABLE WITH CONFLICT
Martín Prechtel says that conflict is the antidote to violence and aggression. Conflict is healthy, constructive and a natural part of creating thriving communities. Cultivate your communication and conflict resolution skills and practice, practice, practice. Constructive conflict resolution is required now and is what is going to lead us into the future.
STAY INFORMED AND DISCERNING
We have got to stay informed and engaged like never before. It’s also necessary to be discerning. Research your news sources and their credibility. Shift gears when you are just feeding what Eckhart Tolle named “the pain body.” The pain body is like an entity we wear that breeds on fear and pain. If you find yourself spinning out or feeling hopeless and helpless, take a break from media, go outside, root down and tend to your body!
